More Tools, Not More Conflict
You Don't Have to Choose Between Standard First Aid and Herbal Medicine.
Herbal First Aid: Everyday is designed to give you additional tools and practical options—not to make you abandon the first-aid skills you already know.
Think of it as adding another layer of capability to your first-aid knowledge. If a situation is life-threatening, get professional help on the way. Then use the tools you have while you're waiting and do what you can to stabilize the situation and buy time for more help.
Know What to Keep
Build a practical herbal first-aid kit around preparations and supplies you can actually use.
Know How to Use It
Learn practical applications for common cuts, burns, bites, bruises, digestive problems, respiratory complaints, and more.
Know What to Do
Develop a calm, organized approach so you can take useful action instead of standing there wondering where to start.
The Information Problem
It's Not Enough to Know About Herbs.
You need to know what to keep on hand, how to prepare it, and what to do when something actually happens.
There are herbal books. First-aid books. Natural remedy websites. Emergency-preparedness guides. Wilderness resources. But practical information is often scattered across all of them.
Herbal First Aid: Everyday brings those pieces together in one practical resource.
Preparedness Is More Than Supplies
“The ability to stay calm when someone else isn't.”
One of the most useful things you can bring to an emergency is a calm mind. Familiarity with your supplies and a clear idea of where to begin can make a tremendous difference in how you respond.
This course includes advice on getting the most from your training—and on staying calm and organized when someone needs your help.
Imagine Being Ready
What If You Already Knew What to Reach For?
The time to learn how to make an herbal preparation isn't when someone is already hurting.
At Home
Handle the everyday cuts, bruises, burns, bites, digestive upsets, colds, and other situations that inevitably come up.
On the Road
Know what you've packed, why you've packed it, and how to use it when you're away from your usual supplies.
Outdoors
Have practical herbal first-aid skills that travel with you wherever you go.
Why I Created This Course
My Journey Into Herbal First Aid
It Started When I Was Six
When I was six years old, I had a frightening experience with illness and a hospital stay. I came away with a lesson that stayed with me: sometimes the institutions we're taught to trust simply don't have the answer we're looking for.
My parents searched for answers. Friends introduced our family to nutrition and other holistic approaches. We began keeping track of what seemed to help, and I became fascinated by the relationship between food, herbs, and the way the body responds.
I Started Studying Herbs as a Teenager
Around thirteen, I began studying herbs, nutrition, and home remedies for myself. I read everything I could find and eventually enrolled in a school of herbal medicine after high school.
I studied the work of teachers including Dr. Schultz, Dr. Christopher, Jethro Kloss, Bernard Jensen, Christopher Hobbs, James Duke, Matthew Wood, Phyllis Light, David Winston, Sevensong, Sam Coffman, and others. I also had the privilege of meeting many of these teachers.
From Herbalism to First Aid
Over the years I taught classes, hosted a radio show, worked with clients, helped friends and family, created websites and blogs, and studied massage therapy. I found myself repeatedly drawn to situations where someone needed practical help right now.
As I searched for information about wilderness first aid and what to do when professional help wasn't immediately available, I kept finding the same answer: seek professional help immediately.
Of course. When professional help is available and needed, get it. But I kept asking a different question:
What if help is far away? What if I'm in the wilderness? What if a disaster disrupts normal services? What useful tools can I bring to the situation?
There were plenty of herbal books, but relatively few that went deeply into practical first aid. So I decided to create the resource I wanted for myself.
What you'll learn here is my particular approach to herbal first aid, shaped by years of study, practice, teaching, experience, and plenty of trial and error.
A Real-World Example
“My Mom Just Cut Her Thumb Off. Can You Help?”
Years ago, I got a phone call from a friend who was surprisingly calm. His mother had injured the tip of her thumb while preparing dinner. He called because he knew I had experience with herbal first aid.
The actual injury turned out not to be what his words suggested: she had cut away a large piece of skin along with part of the nail. I asked questions, gave him immediate instructions based on what he described, grabbed my first-aid kit, and drove over.
By the time I arrived, the bleeding had stopped. I helped her with the next steps and followed up afterward. Later, when she showed me the healed thumb, I couldn't tell which thumb had been injured.
This is a personal account of my experience and is not a guarantee of a particular outcome for any injury.
